Sign an Investment and Send Your Funds

Sign an Investment and Send Your Funds

This article is for investors, shareholders, and anyone who holds equity through Fairmint.

When a founder wants you in their round, they send you an invitation link. That link takes you to the agreement, and from there signing and funding happen in the app. This page walks through the whole path.

Before you start

Open the link with the email address the founder sent it to. If you sign in with a different address, the app will tell you the invitation belongs to someone else, because it will not match you to the deal.

If you do not have an account yet, the link walks you through signing up first. See Create your account and get verified.

Step 1: Review the deal

The link opens the company's deal page. Depending on what the founder chose to share, you may see:

  • The terms of the instrument you are being offered

  • Amounts the founder suggested, if they set any

  • Their pitch deck

Read the agreement in full before you sign. The instrument, the amount, and any valuation terms are all on the page.

Step 2: Enter your investment details

Set the amount you are investing, within whatever range the founder allowed.

Your verified details are filled in for you, so you are checking them rather than typing them. If you invest through a company or a fund, switch to that investor before you start. See Invest through a company, fund, or trust.

Step 3: Sign

Sign the agreement in the app. There is nothing to print, scan, or send back.

Some deals need more than one signature, for example a countersignature from the company. When that is the case, the investment stays open until everyone has signed, and you can see who is still outstanding.

Step 4: Send your funds

After signing you get funding instructions. How you pay depends on what the company set up, and may include a bank transfer or a stablecoin transfer.

For a bank transfer, include the reference code shown with the instructions. It is what lets the company match your money to your investment.

Step 5: Follow it through

The investment moves through a series of states, and you can see where it stands from your portfolio at any point.

If something looks wrong

  • The link says it belongs to someone else. It went to a different email address. Sign in with the address the founder used, or reply in the chat so our team can verify and help.

  • You cannot invest more than a certain amount. Either the round is close to its cap or the invitation link has a maximum on it. The message tells you which.

  • You want to cancel. Reply in the chat before funds are sent. Once the money has arrived or equity has been issued, an investment cannot be cancelled in the app.

Common questions

Question

Answer

Do I need to be verified before I can sign?

You go through the same identity path as any other shareholder. If a check is still processing, the app tells you what is waiting on it.

Where does my signed agreement go?

Into your Documents, and to your email.

Can I invest in the same round twice?

Yes, if the founder's invitation allows it. Each investment is its own position.

How long does it take to show as executed?

It depends on how quickly the company confirms your funds. Bank transfers usually take a few days.

Need help? Reply in the chat inside the app and our team will pick it up.
