Connect AI Agent
This article is for founders and admins using Fairmint.
Connect your AI tools to read, update, and manage your cap table programmatically.
The Connect AI agent page lets you connect external AI tools — like Cursor, Claude Desktop, VS Code, or ChatGPT — to your Fairmint cap table via a hosted MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. Once connected, your AI assistant can read your cap table, upload documents, edit events, model scenarios, and export data — all through natural language.
Navigate to Cap Table > Connect AI agent in the left menu to get started.
> ⚠️ Security: Connected AI clients inherit full read and write access to your cap table — including the ability to edit events, commit changes, and export data. Only connect tools you trust, use private/local installations, and disconnect or revoke access when no longer needed.
MCP Server URL
The hosted MCP server endpoint is:
https://mcp.captable.ai/mcp
This is a shared endpoint — when your AI tool first connects, you'll be prompted to authenticate via your browser (OAuth). The server uses your login session to determine which portal to connect to. Copy the URL from the page and paste it into your AI tool's configuration.
Setup by Tool
The page provides ready-to-use configuration snippets for popular AI tools. Select your tool's tab to see the setup instructions:
Cursor
Add the MCP server to your Cursor settings (.cursor/mcp.json):
{ "mcpServers": { "captable": { "url": "https://mcp.captable.ai/mcp" } }}
Claude Desktop
Add to your Claude Desktop config file:
{ "mcpServers": { "captable": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote@0.14.3", "https://mcp.captable.ai/mcp"] } }}
VS Code
Create or edit .vscode/mcp.json in your project root:
{ "servers": { "captable": { "type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.captable.ai/mcp" } }}
ChatGPT
Use the MCP server URL directly in ChatGPT's tool configuration when available.
mcp-remote (Generic)
For any MCP-compatible client, use the mcp-remote package:
npx mcp-remote@0.14.3 https://mcp.captable.ai/mcp
Use the CLI
The page also includes a Use the CLI tab with instructions for connecting via the command line. This is useful for scripting or batch operations against your cap table.
> Security note: The CLI uses the same OAuth session as your browser. Do not share CLI credentials or use your personal session in unattended automation. For programmatic access, contact support about API tokens with scoped permissions.
Capabilities
Once connected, your AI agent can perform these actions on your cap table:
Capability | What It Does |
Read cap table | Query your current cap table — ownership, stakeholders, share classes, transactions |
Upload & extract | Upload documents (PDFs, spreadsheets) and have the AI extract equity events |
Edit & commit | Modify timeline events, add new entries, and commit changes to the live cap table |
Model scenarios | Run pro-forma scenarios (financing rounds, SAFE conversions, option pool changes) |
Export | Export cap table data in various formats |
Reliable Upload Flow
When uploading documents through your AI agent, follow this 7-step process for the best results:
Upload the document — send the file to the MCP server
Wait for processing — the server extracts text and classifies the document
Review classification — verify the AI correctly identified the document type
Confirm classification — approve or correct the classification tags and date
Wait for extraction — the server extracts equity events from the document
Review extracted events — check that all events were captured correctly
Commit changes — apply the extracted events to your live cap table
Retry Guidance
If a document gets stuck during processing:
Retry the extraction if it fails
Cancel and re-upload if the document appears stuck for an extended period
Check that the file format is supported (PDF, DOCX, XLSX, TXT, PNG, JPEG, WebP, TIFF) and under 50 MB
