Invest Through a Company, Fund, or Trust

Invest Through a Company, Fund, or Trust

This article is for investors, shareholders, and anyone who holds equity through Fairmint.

Plenty of shareholders do not invest in their own name. If your equity sits in an LLC, a fund, or a family trust, add that entity to your account and act as it when you invest.

One login can act as you and as any number of entities. You switch between them, and the app follows.

Add an entity

Open the switcher on the bottom left and choose to add an entity. You go straight into business verification, where you provide the entity's details: its legal name, registration number, country of registration, and supporting documents.

You need to be verified yourself before you can add an entity.

Setup does not have to happen in one sitting. If you stop partway, the entity appears in your switcher marked as pending, and you pick up where you left off.

Two separate checks

Verifying an entity and verifying yourself are different things, and passing one does not pass the other.

Business verification

The entity

Lets the entity hold equity and sign for itself

The entity is what gets verified, not you as its representative. Completing business verification for your fund does not make you personally verified, and being personally verified does not verify your fund.

Switch between investors

Once an entity is set up, the switcher changes who you are acting as. That context applies across the whole app, not just the page you are on.

When you are acting as an entity, the Investments, Documents, and actions you see belong to that entity. When you switch back to yourself, you see your own. This is what keeps your personal holdings and your fund's holdings from mixing together.

Check the switcher before you sign an investment or upload a document. Signing while acting as the wrong investor puts the position in the wrong place.

What each entity gets

  • Its own set of positions and documents

  • Its own verified status

  • Its own wallet, provisioned once the entity is verified

Common questions

Question

Answer

Can I add more than one entity?

Yes. There is no limit, and each is verified separately.

I am verified. Why does my new LLC show as pending?

Each entity goes through its own business verification. Your own verified status does not carry across to it.

Can someone else at my fund get access?

Not yet in the app. Reply in the chat and we will talk through what you need.

Can I move a position from me to my entity?

If it was imported from a document that names the entity, yes, the app offers to move it. For anything else, reply in the chat.

Which investor am I acting as right now?

The switcher at the bottom left of the app always shows the current one.
