Update Your Cap Table by Email (Fairmint Forward)
This article is for founders and admins using Fairmint Studio.
Fairmint Forward keeps your cap table current from your inbox. Forward a signed SAFE, closing email, board consent, option grant, or any other cap-table document to your Fairmint Forward address — or CC that address on a thread you're already writing — and Fairmint takes it from there.
Fairmint's cap-table AI reads the document, extracts the equity events (new stakeholders, stock issuances, vesting starts, and more), stores the source file in your Data Room, and queues drafts on your Timeline. A few seconds later you get a confirmation reply; shortly after that, a second reply shows what was extracted with a one-click Apply to cap table link. No login. No upload wizard. No data re-entry.
> Note: Fairmint Forward is enabled per company. If you don't see your Forward address in Studio yet, reply in chat and we'll turn it on for your portal.
Your Fairmint Forward address
Every company gets a personalized address in the form captable+your-company@fairmint.com. That plus-address routes documents to the right company even if you manage several portals.
You can also use the shared address captable@fairmint.com when you send from an email that Fairmint already recognizes as a portal admin. Prefer the personalized address when you operate multiple companies or when someone else (for example your lawyer) is CCing Fairmint on a thread.
Find and copy your address in Fairmint Studio:
Go to Cap Table (Timeline View).
Open the upload drawer (+ Add or Choose files to upload).
Copy your Fairmint Forward address from the email section.
Documents received by email also appear under a Received by email folder in your Data Room, so you keep a clear record of everything your inbox sent to your cap table.
You don't have to forward — CC works too
You can keep working in the threads you already use:
Replying to an investor with a signed SAFE — CC your Fairmint Forward address
Your lawyer sending the executed agreement — ask them to CC your Fairmint Forward address
Returning a signed e-sign packet — CC your Fairmint Forward address
As long as a Fairmint admin for your company is on the From or To line (or you use your personalized plus-address), attachments on that thread can land on your Timeline.
How to use Fairmint Forward
Step 1 — Copy your Forward address
In Studio, open Cap Table, then the upload drawer, and copy captable+your-company@fairmint.com.
Step 2 — Email or CC a cap-table document
Compose an email to your Forward address (or CC it on an existing thread), attach the document, and send. Good examples:
SAFEs and convertible notes
Stock purchase agreements
Board consents and resolutions
Option grant letters
Other executed equity documents
> Attachment limits for email: up to 4 MB per file, and up to 20 attachments per email. Supported types include PDF, Word, and common image formats. Larger files should be uploaded in Studio instead (up to 50 MB per file) — see Cap Table Timeline View.
Step 3 — Get instant confirmation
Within a few seconds, Fairmint replies in the same thread to confirm the document was received and is being processed. You don't need to do anything.
Step 4 — Review what Fairmint's AI extracted
A second reply arrives after processing finishes. It lists every cap-table event Fairmint's AI extracted from your document(s) — for example new stakeholders, stock classes, issuances, and vesting starts — and includes action links for each document.
Step 5 — Tap Apply to cap table
Click Apply to cap table (or the equivalent Apply link) in that second email. No login is required. You'll see a confirmation page showing what was added. You can also Dismiss a document if you don't want those drafts committed.
> Important: Nothing is committed to your live cap table until you click Apply. Apply links are signed and expire after 7 days.
Step 6 — Confirm in Studio
Open Fairmint Studio whenever you're ready. The new stakeholder, issuance, vesting schedule, and related events appear on your Timeline, sourced from the document you emailed.
Built safe by default
Fairmint Forward is designed so email intake can't silently change your live cap table:
You approve before commit — drafts are created first; Apply is required
Sender checks — emails are checked with SPF/DKIM signals; duplicate Message-IDs are ignored
Rate limits — per-company daily and short burst caps reduce abuse
Unknown or untrusted senders — if someone CCs your Forward address and isn't already trusted for your company, the email is held in quarantine until an admin chooses Accept once, Accept always, or Block from their inbox
Multiple companies — if Fairmint can't tell which portal an email belongs to, you'll get a short “which company?” confirmation before anything is processed
Common questions
Question | Answer |
Who can send documents? | Portal admins/owners sending from their Fairmint-registered email, or trusted parties CCing your Forward address (subject to quarantine until you trust them). |
What if there are no attachments? | Fairmint replies explaining that a document attachment is required. |
Can I apply only some documents from one email? | Yes. When multiple documents arrive together, Stage 2 includes per-document Apply / Dismiss links. |
What if the PDF isn't fully signed? | Fairmint may warn about unsigned or partially signed PDFs in the classification email. Review carefully before Apply. |
Do I still need Studio? | Studio remains the full workspace for review, edits, and Timeline management. Fairmint Forward is the inbox path when you'd rather not leave email. |
